ClimateWise
Friends Provident is one of a group of leading insurance companies who have joined together to form a major initiative to tackle climate change.
Known as ClimateWise (external link, opens new window), the initiative is the industry's response to the threat of climate change and follows a series of discussions with HRH The Prince of Wales. Ashley Taylor, Senior Corporate Responsibility Manager, is a member of the management committee that sets the goals and direction for the group. He commented:
“We are determined to help customers, government and indeed ourselves — both as a company and as individuals — make the right decisions now and in the future so that we are all better equipped to deal with climate change.”
ClimateWise has six core principles which Friends Provident is committed to:
- Lead in risk analysis
- Inform public policy making
- Support climate awareness amongst our customers
- Incorporate climate change into our investment strategies
- Reduce the environmental impact of our business
- Report and be accountable
Companies that sign up to the principles must produce an annual statement, agreed at board level, on steps they have or are taking to comply. Our next report will be available from July 2009. An independent report will review overall industry compliance.
