Worcestershire Royals punish poor Northamptonshire - Saturday 23rd June
Northants flopped for the second time in two days as the Worcestershire Royals improved their chances of qualification from the Midlands/Wales/West Group. Batting first James Cameron (57) and Phil Hughes (52) were the mainstays of the Royals innings as the visitors made 142-5 off 20 overs. The pair provided a third wicket stand of 101 but lacked support from any other batsman to leave Northants with a target that appeared assailable. However, the Steelbacks batsmen did not produce the goods either with only Aussie Cameron White providing any type of resistance as he blasted 62 off 42 balls. This was not to be enough and Northants fell 14 runs short.
The Steelbacks are yet to record a victory in this year's Friends Life t20 tournament and their chances of progressing from the group stage are looking slim. On the otherhand Worcestershire are now only three points behind group leaders Somerset and will look to press on.
This was the day's only game as the match between the Welsh Dragons and Gloucestershire Gladiators was called off due to persistent rain without a ball being bowled.
