Durston delights in Derbyshire win - Sunday 1st July
Lancashire's hopes of making the quarter finals have almost been snatched away by Wes Durston as the Derbyshire all-rounder produced a first class performance to lead his side to victory at Old Trafford.
Opening the bowling, Durston struck to remove two of the Lightning's in form dangermen when he took the wickets of Stephen Moore (0) and Stephen Croft (48) whislt taking figures of 2-16. Supported by Rana Naved-ul-Hasan (3-20) Derbyshire restricted the home side to just 122-8 from 20 overs. Then opening the batting, Durston ripped the bowling attack apart with a quickfire 56 off just 36 balls to put the victory almost beyond doubt. Despite a late flurry of wickets Derbyshire secured their second win of this year's Friends Life t20 tournament by 3 wickets to move off the bottom of the North group.
Worcestershire moved within a point of their opponents as group leaders Somerset lost their second match in a row. The Royals batted first and got off to a brilliant start due to some big hitting from Moeen Ali who blasted 47 runs off of just 23 balls. Solanki (33) added Phil Hughes (41) kept the pressure on the Somerset bowling attack as Worcestershire posted 173-7 off twenty overs - a total including 6 penalty runs obtained by Somerset for a slow over rate. Somerset never really got going in reply as Worcestershire's captain, Daryl Mitchell (3-13) and Brett D'Oliveria (3-20) skittled Somerset out for 119, 54 runs short. Despite the outcome of this game, both sides will now be looking to progress onto the next stage of the tournament.
